PROJECT IMPLEMENTATION

January 2025 –  April 2025

The goal of this intervention is to protect and strengthen the right to access information of public importance in Serbia through active engagement in the ongoing process of amending the Law on Free Access to Information of Public Importance. The initiative seeks to prevent the further erosion of this fundamental democratic mechanism— the public’s right to know— which promotes institutional transparency and enables citizens to hold authorities accountable.

The intervention includes the development of alternative proposals to improve the draft law, as well as building broad-based support among civil society organizations for the proposed amendments during the public consultation and legislative adoption process.

The project "Defending the Public’s Right to Know" is supported through an Ad Hoc grant within the regional SMART Balkans – Civil Society for Shared Society in Western Balkans, implemented by the Centar za promociju civilnog društva (CPCD) from Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Center for Research and Policy Making (CRPM) from North Macedonia, and the Institute for Democracy and Mediation (IDM) from Albania. The initiative is financially supported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Norway.
