PROJECT IMPLEMENTATION

June 2024 – until termination

Research has shown that numerous education and health institutions in Serbia have illegally acquired or are currently purchasing video surveillance equipment with the possibility of automatic facial recognition. Through this project, Partners Serbia will perform additional research to collect data on the use of biometric surveillance in the selected institutions and then submit motions for the initiation of an inspection supervision by the Commissioner for Personal Data Protection. The Commissioner shall, in accordance with his competences, determine whether the acquisition of this equipment has been carried out in a lawful manner, whether there is a valid legal basis for the use of this technology, and whether the same purpose can be achieved by less intrusive methods.  Following that, Partners Serbia will draft two thorough case studies.
