PROJECT IMPLEMENTATION
Decembre 2023 – August 2024
The project, "The Future of the Western Balkans in Digital Europe", aims to improve the protection of human rights in the digital environment, focusing on 1) the preparation of the countries in the Western Balkan region, including Serbia, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Albania, and Kosovo, to harmonize national regulations with the Digital Services Act (DSA) and the Digital Market Act (DMA); and 2) an impact assessment on current implementation efforts of these acts in the region. Through coordinated activities, the project aims to strengthen the capacities of civil society organizations, the media, and fact-checkers. In this way, the project will lay the foundations for coordinated actions and advocacy activities with institutions to achieve better standards in the protection of citizens' digital rights.
The project is expected to result in an empowered community, informed decision-makers, and an encouraged public that is aware and active in protecting their digital rights in a dynamic digital environment. Additionally, the project's activities will create a regional network of civil society organizations, media, and activists who will, through coordinated action, advocate for an emphasis on human rights protections when the institutions begin to implement and apply the mechanisms from the DSA and DMA.
